Jesse Marsch has announced a 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup, which he believes is the best Canada has ever assembled. The roster includes prominent players like Jonathan David from Juventus and Ismael Koné of Sassuolo.
Canada is set to co-host the tournament this summer alongside the USA and Mexico, with the event running from June 11 to July 19. As hosts, they automatically qualified as top seeds for the expanded 32-team competition.
A significant concern for coach Marsch was the fitness of Alphonso Davies. He had been sidelined for eight months following an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his knee in October 2025 and later sustained a muscle injury while playing for Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final. Although he might miss the opening match, Davies has been cleared to join the squad.
The squad features two players from Serie A: Juventus striker Jonathan David and Sassuolo midfielder Ismael Koné. Former Inter Milan midfielder Tajon Buchanan is another familiar face to Serie A followers.
«We have really our best group of 26 players that this country has ever assembled at any one time,» stated Marsch.
Canada will compete in Group A against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Qatar, and Switzerland.

Il Canada co-ospiterà il torneo quest’estate insieme a USA e Messico, con l’evento in programma dall’11 giugno al 19 luglio. In quanto paese ospitante, si è qualificato automaticamente come testa di serie per la competizione allargata a 32 squadre.
Una preoccupazione significativa per l’allenatore Marsch riguardava la condizione fisica di Alphonso Davies. Era stato fermo per otto mesi a seguito di una lesione al legamento crociato anteriore del ginocchio nell’ottobre 2025 e successivamente aveva subito un infortunio muscolare giocando per il Bayern Monaco nella semifinale di Champions League. Nonostante possa saltare la partita d’esordio, Davies ha ricevuto l’autorizzazione per unirsi alla squadra.
La squadra vanta due giocatori della Serie A: l’attaccante della Juventus Jonathan David e il centrocampista del Sassuolo Ismael Koné. L’ex centrocampista dell’Inter, Tajon Buchanan, è un altro volto familiare per i tifosi della Serie A.
