Fabio Capello, speaking in the Sky Sport studios to comment on the Champions League semi-final first leg between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich at the Parc des Princes, revealed his thoughts during the pre-match analysis.
The Italian coach shared his perspective on Xabi Alonso’s past experiences at Real Madrid.
«I think Xabi Alonso didn’t have the right charisma. At Real Madrid, the team didn’t accept his ideas,» Capello stated. He elaborated that while Alonso was a player with great technical ability, he struggled to assert his vision and lead the team effectively.
Capello suggested that the club’s environment and perhaps the existing hierarchy within the squad at the time might have contributed to this lack of acceptance. «It’s difficult to impose your ideas if you don’t have that natural leadership or the full backing of the players,» he added.
The former Real Madrid manager believes that a coach needs more than just tactical knowledge; a strong personality and the ability to inspire are crucial, especially in a club of Real Madrid’s stature. «Charisma is key to making the team believe in your project,» Capello concluded.
